Huge emotions for all the crews that took part in this 7th edition of Elbable, the “palindrome” race of Elba, which begins and ends at the beautiful village of Marciana Marina. The whole event went perfectly thanks to the organisation of the Yacht Club of Cala de’ Medici and the Circolo della Vela Marciana Marina with the collaboration of the Marina Cala de’ Medici Rosignano, a reference point for the recreational boating.
The boats arrived at Marciana Marina on Friday afternoon, June 25th, and LaMMA weather briefed everyone on the weather conditions, thanks to Francesco Pasi, including all relevant information for the crews to decide whether to make the travel clockwise or counterclockwise.
The race started at 08:00 on Saturday, June 26th, and even though there is always a playful mood amongst the different types of teams, it is actually a very technical race and this year in particular was very difficult for all the boats. There are zones where the wind allows the boats to travel quickly but also sections where the wind is very weak and so you have to make maximum use of every gust of wind during the circumnavigation of the island.
The biggest winner in the 7th edition was, Twin Soul, the Mylius 60 from the YCCM sailed by Luciano Gandini, who, setting off to the right, finished first in both IRC and ORC standings, completing the tour in 8 hours and also winning the Line Onor. Runner-up in the IRC was Sfixio, from the YCCM by Pier Angelo Galligani, who finished the tour in around 13 hours. Third place on IRC and ORC runner up was Breezy, the from the YCCM by Andrea Formichi, who in the Spring Championship of the Club and Spring Fragrance had obtained excellent results. Third place in ORC was Aurica, sailed by Cesare Prevedini and flying the flag of the Circolo della Vela Marciana Marina.
In the Open Class, the class length from 10 to 12 metres, Polaris was ranked first, sailed by Marco Cardenti, and runner-up was Jericoacoara, owned by Giancarlo Repetto, which was the boat that came from the furthest away, Genoa.
The only boat to have set off to the left was Dalca Blue, from the YCCM, sailed by David Polo, who finished in around 14 hours.
All in all it was a great event and also provided many fans the opportunity to discover the beauties of the Island of Elba. Summer is here and if the passion for adventure is missing where you are, why not find it with a nice sail to this wonderful island. Book your berth now!
