Held on 23rd to 27th February 2016 in the large bay of Golf Juan on the French Riveria the Cannes Dragon Grand Prix regatta will be held, organised by the Yacht Club de Cannes along with the FFV (French Sailing Federation), the IDA (International Dragon Association) and the AFD.
The regatta is open to all boats of the International Dragon Class with a valid measurement certificate and a copy of it that will be required at time of registration.
There are already 51 entries confirmed for the first 2016 event. The “Dragon Grand Prix in Cannes”, promises to start the season off with a bang!
Among the participants a few famous skippers stand out: Ben Van Cauwenbergh from Belgium, the top Danish Sailor and 3-time winner of the Gold Cup Jorgen Schönherr, Christian Borenius from Finland and on the French vessel, Gerard Blanc.
Expect a thrilling race, given the presence also of the current holder of the Gold Cup Lawrie Smith (GBR) who hopes to establish himself.
Among the women there will be a battle between Gavia Wilkinson-Cox (GBR) and Tanja Jacobsohn (GER) both well capable of winning the race.
A regatta that the Italians also have a chance of winning, with the champion Giuseppe Duca (pictured above) flying their flag, with the local tactician Jean Sebastian Ponce calling the shots.
