The most petals are at Sanremo: 13th march with the Corso Fiorito

Spring is upon us and with the blossoming of flowers there is also the blooming of the Ligurian Coast. A triumph of scents and colours that this March 13th will be held one of the most anticipated events by the Ligurians, the welcoming of the “Corso Fiorito Sanremo In Fiore”: the historical parade of wagons that displays the best horticultural production of the area.

Each year there is a common theme and in 2016 the protagonists of the show will be fairy tales. In particular, parading through the beautiful city of Sanremo, will be thirteen wagons created by the villages of the area each competing to win the edition: Dolceacqua, Little Red Riding Hood - Seborga, The Princess and the Pea - Gulf of Diano Marina, The Ugly Duckling - Ospedaletti, Hansel and Gretel - Vallecrosia, Alice in Wonderland - Bordighera, Snow White - Riva Ligure, The Little Mermaid - Cipressa, Cinderella - Isolabona, Pinocchio - Ospedaletti, Hansel and Gretel - Ventimiglia, Puss in boots - Santo Stefano al Mare, The Pied Piper - Sanremo, as well as “the world of Ruby - viperetta”.

The parade of spring, that started in 1903 to brighten up the atmosphere of the Belle Epoque, in the 60s started to become a tourist attraction and a televised event: this year, in fact, it will be broadcast on Rai Uno the main tv channel in Italy. Access to the parade is free, while a seats in the stands costs €23.50.

A good wagon designer has to achieve perfect harmony between the allegorical figures and the floral arrangements. The placing of the flowers uses a mosaic technique or anchoring the flowers to blocks of polystyrene with final touches being applied to the flower arrangements. Creating a flowered wagon typically uses anywhere between 20,000 and 50,000 flowers and have lifetime of just one day, just enough time for Sanremo to bloom.

An event that you can’t miss if you’re in the zone. Why not book your berth at Sanremo now?
